Republic of South Ossetia is located оn the southern slopes of the Main Caucasus Range in the area of 3900 square meters. Тhe capital is the city of Tskhinval.
One-tenth of the surface occupied by the Republic of the foothills.
The rest of the territory - the mountainous terrain height from 850 to 3938 meters above sea level.
The highest point - Mount Halatsa (3938 m).

Commentary of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia

On the speech made at PACE spring session by Prime-Minister of Georgia

On 23 April 2013 Prime-Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili made a speech at the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasburg and announced the main directions and tasks in foreign policy of Georgia. He particularly said “it is known that 20 percent of the territory of Georgia was occupied by Russia in 2008”.

On 24 April 2013 during a working visit to Moscow Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia David Sanakoev met with Secretary of State, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation G. B. Karasin.


During the meeting were discussed topical issues in the context of bilateral relations between Russian Federation and Republic of South Ossetia, interaction in foreign-policy as well as some aspects of the current situation in South Caucasus.

On appointment of Mr. Oleg Botsiev as an Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of South Ossetia in Republic of Abkhazia.

On 15 April 2013 by a Decree of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia L. Tibilov Botsiev Oleg Ilich was appointed as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of South Ossetia in Republic of Abkhazia.

On possible recurring investigation of occurrences that took place in August 2008 in Georgia

Requests to carry a recurring investigation on the facts that took place during war in August 2008 and their legal qualification are heard more often from highest Georgian tribunes. In particular, Prime-Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili stated that “the war issue is covered with mist” and called on investigation of it’s circumstances.
