Republic of South Ossetia is located оn the southern slopes of the Main Caucasus Range in the area of 3900 square meters. Тhe capital is the city of Tskhinval.

The highest point - Mount Halatsa (3938 m).

The first session of the Expert Council affiliated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, organized under Minister Tskhovrebov’s Order dated August 1, 2015 took place on November 19, 2015.


Within the session “Current foreign policy of the Republic of South Ossetia” the participants spoke about the importance of foreign policy agenda for the Republics’ national interests. Members of the council were united in their certainty that free exchange of expert opinions on current issues of foreign policy is a necessity. Alongside with this the attendees welcomed the initiative of organizing the Expert Council affiliated to the Ministry as a forum where broad range of foreign policy topics and international agenda could be discussed and the mechanism of interaction between the MFA of the Republic and expert community would be developed.

Underwriting their commitment to further cooperation the participants expressed readiness to continue work within the Council on regular basis.

Statement of the members of the first session of the Expert Council affiliated to South Ossetia Foreign Ministry


We, members of the first session of the Expert Council affiliated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia;


Taking into consideration the role of foreign policy in serving the national interests of the Republic of South Ossetia;

Stressing the importance of participating the Republic’s civil society in determining focal points of foreign policy;

Welcome the idea of establishing an Expert Council as a forum where issues of foreign policy can be discussed by independent experts so that mechanism of cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with expert community could be developed.

Noting with approval the constructive atmosphere of the first session of the Council, we confirm readiness for further cooperation and strongly believe it is necessary to exchange opinions in this format regularly.
