In conclusion of the official visit to Nauru, the official ceremony of signing bilateral South Ossetian - Nauruan intergovernmental documents took place in Yaren on February 3, 2018.


The Memorandum of understanding on cooperation and interaction on international relations between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Republic of Nauru and the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Government of Republic of Nauru on waiver of visa requirements for mutual visits of nationals of the two countries were signed by Dmitrii Medoev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, and Baron Divavesi Waqa, the President of the Republic of Nauru.

The Memorandum stipulates the format of cooperation between South Ossetia and Nauru in international affairs, in particular, the assistance of the Nauruan party in promoting the interests of the Republic of South Ossetia in the UN, international and regional organizations and other international platforms, where the Republic of Nauru is participating.

In accordance with the Agreement, nationals of the state of either party shall be exempt from visa requirements to enter, leave, transit or stay in the territory of the other state for a period not exceeding 90 days per period of 6 months, starting the first date of entry.

The Agreement is aimed at further development of the South Ossetian-Nauruan relations in various spheres and at creation of favorable conditions for extending business, tourist, humanitarian and cultural contacts.

In statements made after the ceremony, Dmitrii Medoev and Baron Waqa highly appreciated the importance of the signed documents, having noted that they would serve as a basis for the legal framework of the bilateral relations and would significantly expand the parties' opportunities for interaction at the international arena.

In conclusion, Minister Medoev once again congratulated the President and the people of Nauru on the holiday and thanked Baron Waqa for the warm and cordial welcome extended to the delegation of South Ossetia during its stay in the Republic.

In his turn, President Baron Waqa expressed gratitude to the South Ossetian delegation for the visit to the Republic of Nauru and wished the delegates a happy return to their Motherland.
