Republic of South Ossetia is located оn the southern slopes of the Main Caucasus Range in the area of 3900 square meters. Тhe capital is the city of Tskhinval.
One-tenth of the surface occupied by the Republic of the foothills.
The rest of the territory - the mountainous terrain height from 850 to 3938 meters above sea level.
The highest point - Mount Halatsa (3938 m).

September 17 saw Murat Dzhioev, the Plenipotentiary of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia on post-conflict settlement, heading the South Ossetian delegation at the Geneva International Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia, hosting a meeting with the Co-Chairs of the Discussions representing the EU, the OSCE and the UN, who arrived in Tskhinval on a working visit.


Agenda of the forthcoming 45th round of the GID scheduled for October 9-10 has been discussed at the meeting.

The main attention has been drawn to issues, related to maintaining security, and to the necessity of more active work on development of the wording of a joint statement by the participants of the Discussions on commitment to principle of non-use of force, acceptance of which has been being blocked by the Georgian party for several years already. The South Ossetian party has reiterated that the statement could become a constructive base for development of a legally binding agreement between the parties on non-use of force which would have firm international guarantees.

Attention of the Co-Chairs has been drawn to the situation in regions, adjusted to the South Ossetian-Georgian border, and to the increased number of violations of the state border by foreign citizens located in Georgia inclusively.

The South Ossetian party expressed a resolute protest against the actions of the Georgian authorities in relation to the citizens of the Republic of South Ossetia, who had been included in the wanted list of Interpol on with absolutely unsubstantiated accusations
Mr. Dzhioev expressed regret for the destructive policy of the Georgian side, which led to breakdown of the September IPRM meeting in Ergneti.

At the same time it has been emphasized that South Ossetia is not refusing of participation in the existing format which bears great importance for near border security, and once again has urged the Co-Chairs to exert influence on Georgia in order to exclude in future similar inadmissible approach to issues which are vital for maintaining peace and stability in the region.

Serious attention has been drawn to humanitarian issues, which would be discussed in Geneva by members of Working group II.
The South Ossetian delegation has reiterated its firm stand about the impossibility of discussing the issue of refugees until Georgia stops turning the problem into a political issue, through bringing it at international stages beyond the framework of the Geneva discussions.
After the meeting the Co-Chairs of the GID answered questions from local media.

On the same day the delegation of the Co-Chairs went to the Leningor region of the Republic of South Ossetia to observe the developments, which had taken place in the region.
