Republic of South Ossetia is located оn the southern slopes of the Main Caucasus Range in the area of 3900 square meters. Тhe capital is the city of Tskhinval.

On 20 May 2013 South Ossetia commemorated victims of Georgian aggression on Zar road in 1992.


On 20 May 1992 on the Road of Life, connecting Tskhinval with the rest of the world, near village Zar a convoy with defenseless children, elders and women was shot dead. 33 people were killed, 16 people were wounded. The eldest among them was 73 years old, the youngest was 11 years.

On the spot where the tragedy happened in village Zar, Tskhinval region of South Ossetia, at the memorial of Mourning Mother, was held a mourning meeting in which participated representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of RSO.

At the meeting were also commemorated those who died from Georgian fascists and gave their lives for independence of their Motherland.
