Comment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia

Pertaining to the adoption of another Georgian resolution by the European Parliament

The resolution titled “Occupied Territories of Georgia – 10 years after the Russian Invasion”, in which the European Parliament supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia and calls for Russia to revoke its decision on the recognition of the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, was adopted at the session of the European Parliament on June 14, 2018.

The unwillingness to accept new geopolitical realities established in the Caucasus prevents the authors of the document to realize the absurdity of charges, they have brought and in which the tactics of cynical manipulation of facts is used. Stake is placed on the traditionally groundless insults against Russia and complete removal of fault from Georgia for the long-lasting discrimination of the Ossetian people, which culminated in the military aggression of August 2008. It seems that they in the West consider only interests and position of the Georgian side, as they have been consistently using “political stamps” instead of being guided by the existing reality.

Complete ignorance of position of the people of South Ossetia runs like a golden thread through the resolution. True stability and peace maintained by Russian military forces, which presence is regulated by the bilateral Russian-South Ossetian agreements, have been observed in South Ossetia for ten years already after August 2008. The people of South Ossetia are grateful to the Russian officers and border guards who guarantee external safety of the Republic.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, while addressing Members of the European Parliament, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia once again claims the necessity to designate clearly the aggressor, which unambiguously is Georgia, as a war criminal, appeals to refuse of supporting the Georgian authorities in their claims for others territories and to give an impetus to the actions, aimed at creation of conditions, where there would be absolute guarantees of non-repetition of aggression.
