Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia

relatively Saakashvili `s speech at 67th session of the UN General Assembly

On September 25, 2012, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili in his speech at the 67th session of the UN GA accused Russia "of an attempt to influence political processes in Georgia by particular means of large-scale maneuvers and troop concentrations on the border" with supposedly occupied regions of Georgia.

The Georgian leadership excessively dramatizes the situation as usual. In addition to creating the myths of the past and the present in the Georgian-South Ossetian relations, Georgia regularly uses various conflict situations in its propaganda that are treated in its own interests and goals. Theses of Tbilisi often find broad support in the West and then, unfortunately, are used in the statements of both European and the U.S policymakers, and some international organizations.

The conclusions of the report of the independent EU commission under the leadership of Ms. Heidi Tagliavini, clearly proved to the world that Georgia was the aggressor in August 2008, but subsequent permanent military preparations and Georgian threats to "restore the territorial integrity", which South Ossetia has repeatedly drawn attention to, are unfortunately overlooked by world community.
The Georgian authorities make such statements about the "threat" from South Ossetia for another reason - to deflect the people`s attention away from the complex political situation in the country before the parliamentary elections which have revealed a sadistic regime of the Georgian leadership with the democratic facade. Official Tbilisi seeks for an external enemy in order to resolve the situation favorably.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia declares that no mobilization and no military capacity in the Republic take place. There are only those of the Russian military in South Ossetia which accord with bilateral Russian-South Ossetian agreements. There are no additional forces on the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia once again calls on the international community and the participants of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly to draw attention to the expansion of the Georgian military forces on the border with South Ossetia, which, as recent history shows, are really serious danger and talk about Georgian revanchist leadership, not only to see the problems of the region through the prism of the interests of the Georgian authorities, ignoring the reality.
