During the visit to the Italian Republic the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia Dmitrii Medoev visited the province of Catania, Sicily on October 22.

The city of Randazzo saw a ceremonial meeting of Dmitrii Medoev with Francesco Sgroi, the Mayor of the city. Deputies to the Mayor, public representatives and Eugeny Panteleev, the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Palermo, participated in the meeting.

National anthems of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Italian Republic were performed at the beginning of the event.

Mr. Sgroi welcomed the honored guest and expressed readiness to conclude the Agreement on Cooperation with Tskhinval. In his turn the Minister thanked the Mayor for the invitation to visit Randazzo, for the warm welcome extended by the municipality and told about the history and culture of South Ossetia, the 10th anniversary of recognition of the South Ossetian independence by Russia and the perspectives of further development of the Republic.

After the ceremony the Minister and the Mayor went to children's municipal institution, at territory of which a nut-tree, symbol of Peace, had been planted.

On the same day Dmitrii Medoev and Francesco Sgroi, accompanied by carabinieri, ascended Mount Etna, where planted national flags of South Ossetia and Italy.
