Republic of South Ossetia is located оn the southern slopes of the Main Caucasus Range in the area of 3900 square meters. Тhe capital is the city of Tskhinval.

September 13-14 saw the Co-Chairs of the Geneva International Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia visiting the Republic of South Ossetia.


Issues related to the agenda of the coming 37th round of the GID, scheduled for October 3-4, 2016 were discussed on September 13, 2016 at a meeting with Murat Dzhioev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Plenipotentiary of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia on post-conflict settlement.

South Ossetia party emphasized once again the necessity of making a joint statement on a commitment to non-use of force in the course of promoting security and stability in the region.

As for the security situation about South Ossetia-Georgia border, despite the relative stability the attention of the participants was drawn to the necessity of strict border regime for everybody including the local population. With this background the importance of work conducted upon the IPRM, especially the operating “hot line”, organized for reviewing incidents happening at the border, was emphasized.

Special discussion on humanitarian issues took place as well.

In framework of the visit the Co-Chairs met with Leonid Tibilov, the President of the Republic of South Ossetia.

On September 14 members of South Ossetia delegation and the Co-Chairs of the Discussions went to Leningor region, where met with representatives of the administration, visited a school, a hospital, an orphanage and got information about the facilities being under construction upon the South Ossetia-Russia investment program.
