Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia in connection with the fourth anniversary of the armed aggression of Georgia against South Ossetia

Tonight, on August 7 at 10 pm, commemorative events devoted to the fourth anniversary of the armed aggression of Georgia against South Ossetia will start in the Republic of South Ossetia with the action "Exhibition of shot paintings," which will be held at the Theater Square in the center of Tskhinval.

The grief action "We will remember everything ..." will begin at 23:35 - at the very time when in August 2008 first artillery fire fell upon the sleeping city. Georgian side flung modern military hardware, heavy artillery and airforce to exterminate civilians and Russian peacekeepers. As a result, hundreds of civilians of Tskhinval and surrounding communities, dozens of Russian peacekeepers were killed and the number of wounded and injured was immeasurably greater. The level of destruction was truly horrific.

In those dark days, only the courage of defenders of South Ossetia and decisive and timely intervention of Russia which carried out an operation to forcing Georgia to peace, rescued the people of South Ossetia from complete destruction.

Commemorative events will continue till August 8. A round table "Iron Nykhas" with representatives of foreign countries and near abroad diaspora, under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia will be held in the frames of these events.
