On possible recurring investigation of occurrences that took place in August 2008 in Georgia

Requests to carry a recurring investigation on the facts that took place during war in August 2008 and their legal qualification are heard more often from highest Georgian tribunes. In particular, Prime-Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili stated that “the war issue is covered with mist” and called on investigation of it’s circumstances.

It is not clear, for how much longer will the occurrences of August 2008 and other fascist crimes of the Georgian leadership, that took place during the last twenty years, will be cover with mist. It is time to open eyes of Georgian people and the International Community on the ruinous inadequate policy of Georgian leadership towards people of South Ossetia, that led to numerous victims, destruction and catastrophic humanitarian situation in the region.

The main conclusion of the International Commission Headed by Heidi Tagliavini on the fact that it was Georgia who started the war against South Ossetia in August 2008 is known and cannot be contested. Besides, there are many living witnesses and participants of August 2008 occurrences who know the truth and should say it. Namely, Tristan Tsitelashvili, Georgian Army General, participant of the war in August, in his interview stated that they had documents and footage that shows real picture of preparations and carrying of a large-scale military operation by Georgia against South Ossetia. Although, some of the claims of General Tsitelashvili need additional examination, he actually confirms the South Ossetian position on August 2008 war as well as numerous Georgian provocations carried out on the territory of South Ossetia by Georgian special forces till August 2008.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of South Ossetia positively evaluates statements of current Georgian leadership in respect of the recurring investigation and hopes that the investigation will not be formal but will be in-depth and objective and that the investigation will cover not only August 2008 occurrences he rest of the crimes of Georgia committed against people of South Ossetia during the last twenty years. Hopefully Georgian authorities will finally acknowledge their mistakes, the guilty will appear before court and will incur a deserved punishment.
