Commentary of the Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of South Ossetia

Georgia and its western sponsors do not leave their hopes to implement a project ‘involvement without recognition’ in South Ossetia and Abkhazia aimed to dissolve their independence. In his speech at a conference in Batumi on relations between Georgia and European Union, Representative from the European External Action Service, Mr. Gunnar Weigand suggested extension of the agreement, that is being signed, on association and free trade between Brussels and Tbilisi, on South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The suggestion of the EU Representative was fully supported by the Georgian side.

In reality that is another trick to ‘deisolate’ South Ossetia and Abkhazia and convince them to renounce their sovereignty for doubtful economic benefits.

The European Union continues to worry about ‘territorial integrity’ of Georgia considering South Ossetia and Abkhazia to be part of Georgia but refuses to remember about wars of Georgia against South Ossetia and Abkhazia, refuses to see that Georgia keeps its military ambitions as it is not signing a legally binding peace agreement on non use of force.

By welcoming any initiative aimed at strengthening peace and stability in South Caucasus and confirming its devotion to constructive cooperation with all the involved international bodies, South Ossetia believes that the European diplomacy could found a better use of their efforts and make a significant input into the regional security by convincing Georgia to return to discussions on non use of force agreement with South Ossetia and Abkhazia..
