On 1-3 June 2013 South Ossetia was visited by a delegation from Italy headed by the President of Friendship Society between Italy and South Ossetia, Professor Mauro Murjia. The delegation was invited to South Ossetia by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of RSO D.G. Sanakoev.

In Tskhinval the delegation was received by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs A. Kochiev. While greeting the guests he noted that South Ossetia continued to extend its international ties and was making new friends. Policy of Georgia, directed at isolation of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, was doomed to failure. Nobody in the world doubted that it was Georgia who started the war in 2008 and that a consistent work has been done to achieve further recognition of our state.

South Ossetia needed friends who would tell the world truth about the country, about the struggle of the people. Number of friends of South Ossetia and Abkhazia was constantly increasing. More and more people offered friendship and help. It was a pleasure to welcome to South Ossetia our Italian friends. Hope we would find points for further fruitful cooperation.

During the meeting the sides discussed possibilities of interaction in the frame of the Friendship Society between Italy and South Ossetia as well as perspectives for further development of the relations, particularly trade, economic and cultural ties. A scheme of practical activities on implementation of joint projects was elaborated.
