Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of South Ossetia

On demarcation works on the border with Georgia

The recent loud and nervous campaign in Georgia on demarcation and defining the state border line of the Republic of South Ossetia is another false provocation aimed at misinforming of the population and at gaining support of the International Community in achieving its aims.

After recognition of the independence of South Ossetia in 2008 a Commission on delimitation and demarcation of border line with neighboring states was created. Demarcation works with the Russian Federation were carried out, numerous appeals to Georgia were left without answer.

The ability of Georgian authorities to cover the situation with mist and turn everything upside down to unwind the tension in the region is astonishing. Declarations of the Georgian side on so-called unauthorized demarcation works carried out by the Russian border guards and more over on shifting the state border line to the territory of Georgia are absurd. Russian border guards are guarding border of the Republic South Ossetia in full compliance with the bilateral agreement on joint protection of the state border of South Ossetia. Defining the border line between South Ossetia and Georgia on the ground and its fixation are done in compliance with the legislation of the Republic of South Ossetia. Works are carried out on the territory South Ossetia, territory of Georgia is not involved.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated a number of times that according to the Constitution of the Republic South Ossetia, territory of the Republic of South Ossetia is defined within the borders of the former South-Ossetian Autonomous Region. As an independent and recognized state South Ossetia determines its border policy independently.

Instead of changing its distorted nationalistic policy and recognizing South Ossetia, Georgia continuous to actively use information sabotage to get the International Community involved into problems of Georgia and realizing its aspirations.
