In framework of the official visit of the South Ossetian Foreign Minister Dmitrii Medoev to Nauru a meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Nauru Cyril Buraman has been organized on February 2, 2017.


During the meeting Dmitrii Medoev expressed gratitude to Cyril Buraman for the invitation to visit the Parliament of the Republic of Nauru and thanked the authorities of Nauru for organizing the official visit to the Republic on such an important day. The Minister emphasized the warm welcome extended to the South Ossetian delegation during its stay in Nauru, noted the high level of organization and the accurate and coordinated work of all agencies, responsible for protocol and events. As it was emphasized by Dmitrii Medoev, in South Ossetia they are grateful for the Act of Recognition of the Independence of South Ossetia by the Government of Nauru, dated December 16, 2009.

In framework of the official visit to Nauru a trilateral meeting between representatives of three friendly states – the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia Dmitrii Medoev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia Daur Kove and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Nauru Grigorii Loginov has been organized on February 1, 2018.


Positive development of traditionally friendly South Ossetian-Abkhaz-Russian relations, including active political dialogue on relevant terms of regional and international agenda, expectations of further strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation in various spheres were marked during the meeting.

January 31, 2017 saw a meeting of the South Ossetian Foreign Minister Dmitrii Medoev with His Excellency Peter M. Christian, the President of the Federated States of Micronesia.

January 31, 2017 saw Dmitrii Medoev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, participating in the solemnities, dedicated to the 50th Independence Day of the Republic of Nauru.


Official events started with the ceremony of raising the National Flag, accompanied by the National Anthem of the Republic of Nauru, performed by the church choir at the square in front of the Government House.

The President of Nauru Baron Waqa addressed the attendees with a congratulatory speech, followed by a parade of the police units and other special units of the Republic, as well as citizens of Nauru, employees of government agencies, pupils, sportsmen and representatives of tribes, inhabiting the island.

A study visit of Dmitrii Medoev, the South Ossetian Foreign Minister, with a group of guests of the Republic of Nauru to the central part of Nauru Island, where phosphates - the strategic natural resources are exploited, was organized on January 30, 2017.


Peter Christian, the President of the Federated States of Micronesia, and Grigorii Loginov, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Nauru, took part in the visit as well.

In framework of the official events, dedicated to the 50th Independence Day of the Republic of Nauru, an ethnographic exhibition was opened in Yaren, where traditional buildings, instruments of labor, domestic artifacts of not only the people of Nauru, but also the people of Fiji, Tuvalu, Guam and Micronesia were presented.

On January 28, 2018 in framework of the official visit to Nauru the South Ossetian Foreign Minister Dmitrii Medoev participated in a solemn mass on the occasion of the 50th Independence Day of the Republic, held in the Cathedral of the city of Anibare.


Daur Kove, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, participated in the event as well.

H.E. Honorable Baron Waqa, the President of the Republic of Nauru, members of Government and Parliament of Nauru, high guests – Heads of friendly states as well as Ministers attended the mass.

In honor of the guests a festive dinner was held after the mass.

Baron Waqa, the President of the Republic of Nauru, hosted a meeting with Dmitrii Medoev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, on January 26, 2018 in his residence.


During the reception the Minister thanked the President for the invitation and on behalf of the South Ossetian authorities once again expressed words of gratitude for the decision to recognize the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia made in 2009.

Alongside with this Minister Medoev handed the congratulatory letter from Anatolii Bibilov, the President of the Republic of South Ossetia, addressed to Baron Waqa, the President of the Republic of Nauru, on the occasion of the main national holiday – the Independence Day.

On January 26 in framework of the official visit to Nauru the South Ossetian Foreign Minister Dmitrii Medoev participated in the launch of a new diesel power station constructed with the assistance of Australia, India and Taiwan, supported by the EU.


The project is of vital importance for the Republic of Nauru, since it provides secure functioning of the infrastructure of the whole state.

At the solemn opening ceremony the President of the Republic of Nauru Baron Waqa cut the ribbon and launched the station.

In his welcoming speech President Waqa congratulated the audience with a wonderful gift for the 50th Independence Day of Nauru and emphasized that construction and launch of the object would ensure stable electrical power supply.
