Comment by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia

Declarations of mad love to the Ossetian and Abkhazian people are made by Georgia recently. Georgian mass media bristles with quotations of Georgian leaders who are vying with each other in offers of brotherhood, autonomy as a part of Georgia or European perspective.

Such statements made by Georgian politicians can only strike with their absurdity. Thus, a proposed autonomy is the next illusive utopia declared by Garibashvili, the Georgian prime minister, who refuses to recognize the existing reality. Nearly twenty five years the Republic of South Ossetia is independent, and for already six years this independence is recognized. Our Republic is being built not on "other’s territory", as Garibashvili declares, but on our ancestral territory. It would be far more reasonable for Georgian authorities to admit this fact and stop abusing both, their own citizens and the world community.

The people of South Ossetia know well the price of the pacific initiatives taken by Georgian leaders which always come to end with bloodshed and human losses. It is not easy to understand how the enemy who tried to wipe a whole nation off the face of the earth and haven’t expressed even a word of repentance six years past from the aggression easily, at one stroke turned into a brother. The repetitive massacres and ethnic cleanings of the Ossetian, organized by Georgian officials as well as attacks on South Ossetia and the August war of 2008, launched by Georgia can’t be forgotten, no matter how Georgian authorities seek for razing that from social memory.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia confirms that no relations between South Ossetia and Georgia can be established until a legally binding document on non-use of force is signed. For six years already the Georgian party has been blocking the signing of this document on the Geneva International Discussions. Moreover, adequate political and legal assessment of Georgian aggression in South Ossetia has to be made and first of all by Georgia itself. Georgia has to admit the fact of genocide of Ossetian people, recognize the independence of the Republic and indemnify the damage caused as a result of the military aggression imposed on South Ossetia.

In this case only it is possible to speak about peaceful co-existence. Georgia has to understand, neighbourliness are more favorable. However without making the above-mentioned steps, the statements made by Georgian politicians are mere words and games of politics for western audience.

It should be emphasized that nobody possesses the monopoly for the truth and nobody is allowed to distort it for as its own sake if there is no alternative. The policy of lie doesn't meet the needs of modern world and comes up with the objective order of a democratic world regime formation. It is high time to realize that only efforts based on the principles of mutual respect can result in stability and peace in the region.
